Greetings! My name is Lauren and I have been teaching ESL, Spanish, math and GED since 2010 as a volunteer tutor, a paid tutor, college faculty, and as a tutor program supervisor. I have made a career out of my passion, which is helping adults reach their goals in ESL and high school completion. My students will tell you I am patient, understanding, and versatile. I try to make lessons fun! I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. I value student-centered instruction and encourage students to set, and keep, their own academic goals. I have helped hundreds of students find the potential in themselves to engage in academics beyond the basics, and I love, more than anything, empowering learners.

In my spare time, I like to write, run, and mountain bike. I play bass guitar, host a radio show on KBOO Portland, and enjoy baking sourdough bread. I have also traveled the world and have three kids. I am excited to get to know you and help you reach your learning goals!

My master's is in Adult Education from Oregon State University (2012) and I am working on my doctorate in Innovation & Leadership in Adult Education at Arizona State University (2025). I have taught GED, high school completion for adults, and ESL as college faculty in Oregon and Washington since 2010. I have also tutored ESL privately and have developed an original peer tutoring program when I worked in a men's prison from 2016-2023. Our tutor program was highly successful and gained us national attention. I won the Faculty Excellence Award at Clark College in Vancouver, WA, in 2020 due to our GED program having the highest graduation rate of any Washington prison. Lastly, my TEFL certificate is through the TEFL Academy (I am in the final stages of completing it).
