About me

I am from Detroit, Michigan USA. I love learning about the world, history, art and culture. I graduated from Albion College in Michigan where I double majored in English (creative writing) and Spanish. One semester was studied in Spain and another in Costa Rica. I have been living in Mexico now for nearly three years. As an adult learner of Spanish, I feel personally aware of the difficulty that is learning a second language. I have taken this experience and applied it to my teaching philosophy by focusing on breaking the language down into simple and pragmatic explanations. I enjoy working with students to find their strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, and developing straight forward and personalized lessons in which a student can feel immediate and useful progress in their target language. I believe that language is more than memorization and strive to bridge culture gaps that aide in my student's abilities to communicate competently amongst native speakers. I have 5 years experience teaching English as a second language, 4 years teaching Spanish, and 7 years experience working with international students, tourists and professionals. I am TEFL certified. I look forward to meeting with you and developing your own personal path to fluency!
