Greetings! My name is Lauren and I have been teaching ESL, Spanish, math and GED since 2010 as a volunteer tutor, a paid tutor, college faculty, and as a tutor program supervisor. I have made a career out of my passion, which is helping adults reach their goals in ESL and high school completion. My students will tell you I am patient, understanding, and versatile. I try to make lessons fun! I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. I value student-centered instruction and encourage students to set, and keep, their own academic goals. I have helped hundreds of students find the potential in themselves to engage in academics beyond the basics, and I love, more than anything, empowering learners.

In my spare time, I like to write, run, and mountain bike. I play bass guitar, host a radio show on KBOO Portland, and enjoy baking sourdough bread. I have also traveled the world and have three kids. I am excited to get to know you and help you reach your learning goals!

After graduating in 2013, I embarked on a two-year adventure in North America, working in the Travel Amusement industry. In the personnel office, I assisted with hiring and onboarding, managing payroll, and handling administrative duties. Being far away from home for long periods of time, this position taught me to be strong, independent, self-reliant, flexible and resilient.

Upon returning to South Africa, I served as a Personal Assistant to a Managing Director in the Sports & Entertainment sector. This role enhanced my organizational and administrative skills, providing crucial support in a fast-paced industry.

I then transitioned to the automotive industry, where for four years, I thrived as a Sales and Marketing Manager. My responsibilities included leading a sales team, managing sales pipelines, orchestrating both boardroom and virtual meetings, and driving marketing and advertising initiatives across social media platforms. I also kept the company website up-to-date, attended expos, and ensured exceptional client satisfaction.
