I approached teaching as a holistic principle, not setting the classbook aside at all but integrating the actvities proposed in it with other resources that the technological advance can provide.

What is more, in the development of my lessons, I always tried to include tools and materials that my students will enjoy. For example, when treating with adolescents, I managed to elicit their linguisitic knowledge through songs from their favourite bands/singers or through the making of presentations, debates and the like about videogames, movies, etc. With kids, I made a great use of background songs to make up the environment.

For example, to practice vocabulary, we used to go through activities like scavenger hunts, puzzles, searching while I played a suspense song (mission impossible soundtrack for instance) to encourage them.
