I have been an instructor of English at the School of Foreign Languages in several universities in Istanbul for more than 12 years. I studied English Language Teaching in New York also did my Master in English Language Teaching as well. Currently, I'm doing my PhD in Educational Technology in English in Istanbul. I also teach TOEFL and IELTS classes both synchronously and asynchronously.
As an educator, my teaching philosophy has always been a process of lifelong learning. I believe that the best teachers are the ones who should be very passionate and ambitious about both learning and teaching. The passion that the teacher has leads them to thorough preparation for their work which enables them to improve their teaching skills and contributes a lot to their learners’ success. Since most learners have different learning skills and techniques, a teacher must recognize how learners learn best in class or individually and plan her lessons accordingly. As a student I have always witnessed that the teachers are the ones who carry all the burden on their shoulders. However, as an educator now I remind my students that I am here for them to guide, I try to help to find their own paths. I try my best to focus on my student’s needs, abilities and interests and learning styles first, because I want my students to be active and responsible participants in their own learning. My teaching philosophy is based on the student-centered learning in which the instructor is a facilitator of the students learning. I expect my students not only to be successful in academic and professional life but also be successful critical thinkers throughout their lives.
